HI everyone. I am new to this site and don't know if I'm in the right place. My husband has just been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma. I have the pathology report and would like to share it with you all to see if anyone can help me understand it better. Is this where I post the details of the report? I feel ignorant about it and I'm really scared and am having alot of anxiety problems because of it. He is the love of my life and I will stand by him all the way. Just needing answers.

We go to a dermatologist on August 15 and to an oncologist on August 19.
Please let me know where to post this report. Thank you so much in advance, and I apologize if I'm in the wrong place.

Hi, Becky-
This is a forum for melanoma patients and their caregivers. We share information, experiences, and support. If that's what you're looking for, then you have come to the right place. Welcome!
Yes, please do post your husband's pathology report here. That will help us understand what is going on with him so we can help him better. And if you haven't done so yet, please do fill out a profile and update it from time to time. Again, knowing his history and treatments will help us help you.
Please don't get freaked out by the word "melanoma" (fat chance, right?). Seriously, though, the vast majority of people have one brush with melanoma and never encounter it again in their lives. And even for people who have advanced melanoma, there are new treatments available in the last 2 or 3 years that work much better and much longer than anything we had before. As you read the posts and the profiles here, you will find a lot of people living normal (if anxious) lives for years after their diagnosis.
If you husband is just at the biopsy stage, it's way too early for you to hit the panic button. Try to stay calm and have a positive mental attitude unless and until worry becomes absolutely necessary. And do post his path report.

Clarification– when I said people "live for years after their diagnosis" I meant "live for years after their diagnoses of ADVANCED melanoma (at least stage IV)". Obviously, the prognosis is much better for Stage I, II and III melanoma patients. Although even for Stage IV melanoma, there are more and more people here who appear to have beaten it and are now NED ("no evidence of disease"). So, again, do not panic!

POW, I just had a long chat with her. So she feels better. I told her here was the best place to post the Path Report. They are in one of the better positions to need to be here. I also gave her Janners Stage 1 URL. So glad they caught his so early. Statistics are on their side!
In Spite of my not wanting to be a standard statistic!

Thanks so much for your response.. My husband's path report: (his name is Monty) says the following:
skin, left side, excision.
Malignant melamoma, superficial spreading type
Breslow 0.16
Clark level II
no ulceration
precurser lesion not identified
regression: present
lymphocytic response: brisk
mitotic index: <1/mm2
lymphovascular channel involvement not identified
neurotrosism; not identified
satellite lesions not identified.
margins free of involvement. Invasive melanoma comes to with 4mm of the nearest lateral margin.
tumor staging pT1a
do you want the observation note?

Do I need to put monty's information on my profile?

Very thin lesion, no ulceration, low mitotic index… sounds like your husband caught it very early and will have an excellent prognosis. Good for him!
Jerry is right; Janner's Stage 1 group will probably be the best place for you to connect with others and get advice and support. The Melanoma Intervational Foundation forum also had a Stage 1 group. You don't need the big guns and dense technical jargon we get into here (although you are still welcome to join us, of course, any time you want to).

God bless you all. Thank you for your time and knowledge. Its always the unknown that gets us. I have been keeping this inside and being strong for him. My blood pressure was up, anxiety level through the roof and I had no outlet. The waiting to see doctors has gotten the best of me.
When we did the biopsy the doctor (gp) told us they think they got it all but that didn't mean it wasn't somewhere else.
Now you all know why I've been a basket case.lol
I wish you all the best and I will go to Janners group,
but…… I still want to come back and check on the people that have been so kind to me> Jerry you rock 🙂
HUGS,
Becky

Becky, you are welcome on this forum also. It is just that this can sometimes be a very scary place for people with stage 1 melanoma. If you do end up back here, yes it is best to fill out the profile page. Congratulations on catching melanoma so early and make sure you now find a good dermatologist and get regular check ups.
Good Luck,
Mary
