Hi,
I had my sentinal lymph nodes removed on my right groin. I have a pimple there now and it's been there for a week and not going away. It also feels kind of lumpy and I don't know if that is the surgery or the pimple.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Can a melanoma come back in the form of a pimple?
Thank you

When you say "It also feels kind of lumpy" are you talking about the pimple or the general groin area? Also, how long ago was your surgery there?
If your surgery was relatively recent it may be a suture reaction, which is common. Basically the body decides to react to stiches, which often causs redness and "pimply" type feel/look. The "lumpiness" could also be scar tissue forming- it takes a long time for the tissues to heal and remodel and settle into the final scar (we're talking months).
If you are a long time out from surgery (i.e a year or more) I might be more concerned. I had an in-transit recurrance at the lymph node site about a year and a half after my lymph node surgery that had to be removed. A few months after that I found a small pimple looking thing on my belly that was red and sore. It happened to show up a couple days before a previously scheduled appointment with my derm so I asked about it. She didn't think it was anything to worry about but scheduled a recheck for 2 weeks later. It was still there so we biopsied and lo and behold it was a tiny melanoma. That's how I found out I'd progressed to stage IV.
So I don't mean to scare you but it does depend somewhat on how recently you had surgery- it could be as simple as a suture reaction or it could be more sinister. Either way, if it's bothering you make an appointment with either your dermatologist or your doctor and talk about it. They may send you away for a couple weeks then recheck, but if it doesn't go away or gets worse don't be afraid to push for a biopsy. It may come back as nothing, but if it helps your peace of mind it's worth it.

There really wasn't anything particularly different, just that I don't typically get pimples on my body (especially my belly) and I decided to show it to my derm because I already had an appointment for a general skin check and figured with my history it couldn't hurt to mention it. She actually thought it might be an ingrown hair (which I also don't really ever get) which is why we waited a couple weeks to biopsy. When it didn't go away we decided better safe than sorry and biopsied.
