      Hi there.

i had a melanoma in situ diagnosed a year ago and have had many moles biopsies since then that were all fine. About 6 months ago I noticed a tiny mole on my arm was changing. My derm ( who is a melanoma specialist) said it was fine. Now it’s got a lot blacker. It’s still tiny but I have a picture of the mole from before and it looks completely different now.

Derm decided to biopsy it when he saw it again last week – but said he thinks it’s fine –  which is being done today. Im so stressed about it. I was so hoping at my last app that I would be moving to 6 monthly visits and now I have this stress again.

Has anyone had a mole that changed from brown to black and changed size that turned out to just be a normal mole?

thanks guys. Just nice to chat to people who know what I’m going through !

It is terrifying to have melanoma. Terrifying. But you are doing the right thing by keeping track and communicating with your dermatologist. I'm a dermatologist playground – lots and lots of funny moles. I actually encourage the derm to have students check out my moles so they can learn (and she's admitted this to be very helpful as mine are very strange). Of the ones removed, some had changed and some the derm just wanted to take because they didn't like the looks of them. Most of mine come back as "mild" or "moderately" atypical, which for me is a normal mole. Thankfully there's a huge range between atypical and melanoma.

I know it's nerve wracking to have another mole change, but chances are truly in your favor since you're advocating for yourself. Take a deep breath and know that you're doing your best. In this crazy world, that's all we can do!!

im lucky that in Australia we only wait a couple of days for results so by the end of this week I will know!

              thanks so much for posting

"Changing" is a red flag – means it should be BIOPSIED.  It doesn't mean it is melanoma.  You are just looking for those lesions that show higher risk to biopsy.  I've had changing lesions NOT be melanoma.  Relax until you really have some reason to stress – chances are it is nothing.  And if it is melanoma, it's likely caught extremely early.
