Can melanoma be misdiagnosed as completely benign nevus or its unlikely?
I mean is it difficult to distinguish between benign and malignant cells?
      Thanks!

Not likely. I have never heard of such a thing happening. If something is completely benign, then it's fairly obvious to the pathologist that there are no malignant cells present.

If you recently got a pathology result back that says it is benign, then congrats to you!

Google dysplasia and pleomorphic changes to cells as they progress from normal to cancer. There can be overlap along the way as cells transition to increasingly abnormal sizes and shapes of the cells and their nuclei. But the transition from normal to atypical to cancerous is relatively well definded and relatively easy to dx. Atypical leasions do not always progress to mm but they often do, so no matter how far along the changes have progressed if they are aytipical they should come off. If your lesion was excised with clear margins you should be fine and no need to worry. Just moniter yourself for EARLY changes and get anything suspicious removed.
