I have been NED 3 years. I had a PET/CT scan 1 month ago which revealed a "subcentimeter lung nodule" with SUV of 2.3….Doc said wait 3 months for further testing..Doc said not to stress it, so does that mean it's probably bening in nature or is there a bigger prbability it could be reaccurence(spelling)??? Any thoughts, or info is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time! Jamie Stage 3a

SUV up take of 2.3 is pretty high. If it was benign, how does your doctor explain the 2.3 uptake. What size is the nodule?

My doctor didn't give the size of the nodule. He only said it showed benign numbers, the 2.3 being below the malignant threshold of 2.5…He said I'd have a CT scan in Dec. to see if it has grown..Supposedly it could be any number of things of benign nature. I was hoping someone out there could help shed some light on this as I feel the information I recieved was scetchy at best, if there's a possibility it's returned, I need that info now. He(doc) didn't act too concerned about the possibility of it being cancer. The radiologist only recommended follow-up and to be suspicious, but said it was considered benign at the time. Thanks.!

Jamie,
I feel your pain in not knowing. I recently had a very similar scenario occur, 7mm "something" on a pet with a low uptake and nothing showing on a CT with contrast done the same week. The doctors all recommended the same – wait and see. The oncological surgen said no one in their right mind would go digging for something that small, and something that small is aweful hard to hit with a needle biopsy. As for what it might be, a whole lot more lung nodules are benign than are melanoma.
Good Luck,
Craig.

I have 15 subcentimeter nodules in my lungs which have just gone through 4 infusions of ipi. Most of mine grew just a bit (3mm, 7mm, 4mm, etc, etc), so they assumed it was melanoma as most things non cancerous don't grow. Your Dr. probably wants to wait 3 months because the nodule is too small to really know what it is. Subcentimeter is ct/mri talk for "below 1cm" which is where you want to be if you have nodules. I really have no idea what those other numbers mean. I do know that 50% of the population have lung nodules for all kinds of reasons, so hopefully it will stay put and vanish on it's own.
Best of luck.
