My husband has a small spot on his spine. He is currently taking Braftovi/Mektovi doing well…this is not a new spot, it just started pressing on nerve. He is starting radiation..10 total treatments. Because of where the spot is he is in a lot of pain and his oncologist has him in the hospital to control pain. Once the lesion shrinks he will be able to go home and continue the rest of his treatments as outpatient. Just wondering if anyone has had this and any advice they can give?

          Hi there
I started at stage 3B. it was on my left upper back. NRAS.uggh. 4mm, ulcerated, high mitotic rate. Nothing in my lymph nodes but I had satellite s meaning already in transit. Did a clinical trial as I didnt want to lose year of my life on Interferon because of my pathology. Did the trial but as I expected I didn’t make it. 18 months out of 24. Melanoma metastasis to my T12 Vertebrae. One spot only. I was given the big gun SRS stereostatic radiation surgery massive dose but in only 2 sessions. It worked. But uggh the pain from it. They were going to give me Lyrica for the pain from nerve damage. I said no because of those horrible reported side affects. They offered it to me here at Princess Margaret in Toronto but were happy I didnt due to side affects. I was about to start the immunotherapy so they didn’t want anything to disrupt that. So just took tons of other stuff. Do not get hooked on Lyrica!!! Find something else for pain during radiation. Fight it Tell your hubby he can do it. I’m sorry he has to do 10 lower dose radiation. They obviously know more than me. I’m NRAS not BRAF so they had to be very aggressive and got me on adjuvant Nivo. as there is good response with high dose stereostatic radiation surgery ‘and immunotherapy combined. ll be done in early October with immunotherapy. Look it up maybe something to asks docs? take good care Tracey

Thank you for your response. My husband finished his 4th radiation treatment on Friday and will begin again Monday for his 5th. They are managing his pain. His doctor decided on the 10 doses of radiation instead of shorter more aggressive so as not to damage the area. He is better already as far as his movement but because of it being on the L1 it is still hard to stand because of the pain. His oncologist is very good just coming to our area from MD Anderson. Trusting God for his faithfulness!
