I had a Stage 1 melanoma (.5 Breslow, no ulceration, no regression, 0 mitosis, Clark level III) removed in September. I know this is considered low risk, but we've had a rough year as my 18 yo daughter was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma last year right about this time and my anxiety level concerning health issues is very high.  My dermatologist did a purse string suture and it took about 8-9 weeks to heal. It was basically an open wound for about 6 weeks. Last week I noticed a spot within the scar. It's hard to tell what it is (small, looks light brown, difficult to see because it's on my upper back) but of course I'm concerned about a recurrence. I have an appointment on Wednesday with my doctor's nurse so she can take a look at it. Does anyone have any insight about this? If it is a recurrence what would the process be? Can it be removed within scar tissue? I keep reading that recurrence survival rates are low.

Don't jump to conclusions – but if it were to be a recurrence, it would be considered "local" and they would probably just re-excise the area going for larger margins.
