Boy, i certainly hope after Labor Day our MRF bigwigs get together in their respected “Think Tank” & come up with a solution to this SEVERE spam problem, its getting WORSE! im starting to debate wether or not to continue here at MRF! A site called “Inspire” has a nice, clean blog called “Melanoma Exchange” that is nice…one thing that should be done is NO MORE ANONYMOUS handles! Just create a username!..Mike

Couldn’t agree more. We need a forum that’s 21st century approved. Right now it feels like one of the first forums ever made. We should have proper replies and proper notifications among other features. As someone who builds websites for a living, moving this data over to something with more features can’t be too difficult. Or depending on what platform they are using, it’s possible that the software just needs to be updated to the latest version. -

Mike unfortunately that won't weed them all out as many have developed names and they are still spam.

They can be weeded out via IP addresses (not individually), and many message boards use tools and known strategies, not that anything is 100% fool-proof.
I hope this reaches a level of urgency with the powers that be, since the forum goes beyond helpful. It may save lives because of the people who post, like when a non-melanoma specialist is giving non-optimal advice or someone promotes a magical (aka useless) cure.
Just last night my husband and I were reflecting that after his diagnosis we were going to get a second opinion. Obviously, they can be crucial. But after finding the forum/reading posts and Celeste’s primer, it became clear the recommended plan by his melanoma specialists was spot on, no pun intended.
Melanoma gives the gift of huge anxiety, but the fear about whether proposed treatment was correct was eliminated. And no lost time or $$ going elsewhere. We also know which institutions we’d likely travel to if needed.
That is huge. Doctors have made errors and misdiagnoses with serious and in one case deadly consequences for my family (me, parents, brother), and others – last week with a neighbor – good docs in a thriving metropolitan area. So tend to be on guard and questioning. (The bell shaped curve is alive and well in every field.) But the forum provides ballast.
But after yesterday’s 16 pages and today’s umpteen pages of spam, I wondered if someone brand new might leave, assuming the forum wasn’t working/too dangerous. Please fix it.

What has me scratching my head is that theses spammers go through the trouble of posting a melanoma specific profile and then post ads for things totally unrelated to the disease. Do they really think that people on this forum would be interested in their wares? It just seems like a waste of everyone’s time.
Anyway, I hope this gets fixed soon.

Exactly! Were not gunna be cured by these scammers/spammers Snake Oils..these post shouldnt be posted “right away” give a few hours for review, devide them up amongst us proven patients, caregivers, (or what have you) and we can help MRF sort these bad seeds…gives us a “commitment” and another reason to hang on to keep this once wonderful site clean & sucker free for our brothers & sisters… -

And to add, dont get me wrong, i love the idea of “instant post’s”, (post goes up right away) that we can all communicate in darn near “real time” but, man! Somethings gotta give here, one whole page is all crap!! and i cant even go back to older post’s for some reason, ya know, the buttons on the very bottom that move to next page? Its not allowing me to…ADAM! SAVE MPIP!!

I don't get the need for outrage. Why click? Why look at the profile? Please, let's not make sudden changes to the best source on the planet, everything is OK.
Remember, not everyone has broadband. Bold New Graphics can cause more irritation than shills for bogus IDs and erection aids.
Be thankful there are no politics already.
Calmly Being Joe

Mike you read my mind. I was thinking that I'd have to leave this board if the spam problem doesn't get better. It's out of control to that point that it isn't worth it to even check it. This really makes me sad as I feel a connection to the people here and don't want to leave. Hope they can do something better soon.

2 minds think a like! I dont feel at home like i use to, call me sensitive but, when it comes to “OUR” Life threatening illness, i guess i am. Iv been reading Cure magazine and just found they have a blog/forum! I signed up as MelanomaHatesMe so, thats my handle lol..oh! Iv mentioned here at MRF that lately, when im using my home computer, the stupid reCAPTCHA doesnt allow me to exit from posting a post! The lil blue circle just goes round & round! No pictures to prove im not a stupid robot! So ive been using my phone for MRF But, guess what? Cure.com has the reCAPTCHA and i exit just fine! Could that be all the Scammers/spammers hacking their merry way????… Inspire.com is nice, all sorts of cancers to forum, ours is called Melanoma Exchange…i dont wanna leave either & will check back periodically to see MRF’s progress… -

So, at 4:15 this morning, there were 9 1/2 pages of crap before getting to legitimate postings. For me, I don't think I will bother checking in until early afternoon, on non-holiday Monday-Friday's. The admins should have had a chance to clean up by then.

Probably that was the last time we were having a lot of trouble with spammers. They did redo the website or programming or something and it worked good and now we have some that have found a way around what they set up. Hopefully they will be able to fix it again.
