Hey!!I noticed a new mole on my leg.
Now I am wondering. Can melanoma pop up out of nowhere and have an invasive depth from the first second? For example a depth of 0.6?
I don’t really understand the progression of melanoma so I would really like to hear from one of you.
Thanks so much!!

If you're worried about the new mole, make a dermatologist appointment and have it biopsied. Yes mel can pop up out of nowhere and automatically have depth. Or it can pop up out of nowhere and have no depth. It can do different things for different people. Try not to worry too much, not every new mole is cancerous, it is more likely that it's benign.

All melanomas go through a radial growth phase, then a vertical growth phase. With something like nodular melanoma, the radial phase is very brief and progresses to vertical early on. However, 70% of melanomas are superficial spreading which typically spend a long time in the radial growth phase.
New moles, by themselves, are not considered suspicious unless the truly are the ugly duckling. New and like other moles is not worrisome.
