Hi there. I had melanoma removed from the bottom of the foot. Had full thickness skin graft placed there. It’s been 3 years since my surgery and the scarring is really bad. Anywho, I was taking a look at my scar today because it’s hurting more than usual, and I noticed a small black dot UNDERNEATH my scar tissue. It’s not on the skin, it’s inside. I’ve sent a message to my dr in hopes to get appointment soon, but I can’t stop thinking about it.

Has anyone had this after removal of actual lentiginous melanoma?

Heres a picture of my ugly foot lol

I notice you didn't get a response yet – I think acral is not that common. My mom had the exact same surgery in Feb of last year and we were concerned recently with several dark spots that appeared underneath, but the dermatologist assured us it was just bruising/blood vessels etc. No-one can tell from a photo though so best to see the doctor for confirmation. Wishing you good luck!

              Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response. I am 8+ years NED, and only check this forum sporadically these days.

I had the exact same procedure as you in 2010…a full thickness skin graft after a WLE for an Acral Lentiginous melanoma lesion on my heel.

In the post-op period, following my healing, I have noticed more than one small dark spot in the scar tissue on the perimeter of my graft. For the first one I found, my doctor removed it with a punch biopsy. It came back benign. I have had a couple more since then, but my doctors have never even mention them during my 6-month check-ups.

I have seen and responded to other posts on this forum regarding this phenomenon. It apparently is quite common for these discolorations to occur within scar tissue.

I would recommend that you show it to your doctor, but in the meantime, you should rest assured that it is most likely not harmful.

              Take care,

              Mark (2A)

Thank you both for responding!!! It has definitely helped me calm down a bit. My scar tissue has been terribly painful so I keep looking at it and my mind is playing tricks on me thinking it’s fetting bigger or darker lol.

My appointment is on the 11th this month.  Hopefully one look at it and they will say what you both have written, and my appointment can just be a skin check and maybe discussion of how to fix the scarring.

thank you again so much. It was nice to hear from people with ALM and even better to hear from someone with it in the exact same location as me!
