A year ago, I had a severely dysplastic mole removed from my calf by exicsion. The excision didn't heal properly, so when they took the stitches out the whole thing opened up, and took several months to heal. While it finally did heal, I've noticed some dark purple spots in the scar. One is toward the bottom and is flat, and the other is at the top and raised. I'm worried that i's a recurrence, even though they said it came back with clear margins. While the spots have been dark since healing, the raised spot on top has recently looked blue.
The blueish color seemed new, and after I carefully picked at it with a pin, the blue seemed to fade. Now a week later, almost the same exact thing. I noticed sort of a blue streak, and after messing with it a bit, it's gone back to looking purple. Has anyone had anything similar to this? Could it just be hard scar tissue, perhaps built up over a stitch? If the mole has grown back, why hasn't it come to the very top, but seem to be staying right under the top layer of skin? Any comments are appreciated!

Have it checked asap. If you havea concern on something that looks different or worrisome always get it checked. I have had 4 surgeries to remove spots of melanoma and each time margins were clear. Cells are so small they are undetectable and sometimes they stay that way. For me they didn't and I have since been treated in a trial with IPI and Interferon together. NED since last June and hope to stay that way. Best wishes to you.

It could be a stitch, I have 2 on my excision that are sort of blueish in color. Do you think this is a possibility?

It might be a stitch. I do remember seeing one when the wound had first opened after the top stitches were taken out. The bluish color is relatively new, and doesn't seem to last, if that makes sense. Also, it's been a year, wouldn't the stitch dissolve?

I got mine done in 2013 and it is still the same. Eventually it might work out but I'm not sure. My dr's all know I have it and they always look at it and say "There's that stitch" so defintely ask but if it's a little line then more than likely it's a stitch.

That is exactly what happened to my husband. Had wide excision on calf back in 2008. healed horribly. Opened up (bad spot to have excision) and never healed right. To this day, he has about a quarter size round scar (in the middle of the incision scar). He is stage IV currently in Keytruda/Interferon trial. To this day the skin in the middle peels and flaks off and looks purple at times. He did have a nasty stitch tht looked purple/blue under the skin that was there almost a year later. eventually had to go to doc to have it pulled out, we couldnt get it out. I would have your looked at but I bet it is nothing to worry about.
