Hello,
Anyone that is suddenly suffering from confusion, might have their calcium level checked. My husband had become delirious, due to high calcium levels created by dehydration, which was a fallout from fatigue/sleeping. My husband is on Opdivo/Yervoy, and became so tired, he slept all the time and was not getting enough fluids. The calcium level in his blood became really high, causing the delirium.
Just wanted to put that out there.
Sandy

Thanks for letting us know. Did he also his thyroid tested? It is normal to have some fatigue, but fatigue to the point of sleeping most of the day is not typical and should always be reported soon to the oncologist. Hope he is feeling better after finding the high calcium level.

Hi, no they did not test his thyroid. They did get the calcium corrected, but while he was in the hospital his left kidney stopped working. He has a nephrotomy in his right kidney do to tumor compression. We were told as long as he had something coming out of the right side, to just monitor the other side. He is super tired, very weak and wasting away so fast. We went to Tampa, FL from Knoxville, TN to a specialist when we first started out. To cut back on stress from travel, we decided to stay close to home for treatment. Probably was a mistake. He has his next Opdivo/Yervoy infusion tomorrow. He has lost 100 lbs since June. He has another urologist appointment next week to see if they may need to tube his left kidney. I am so frustrated. I know my husband is one in millions with cancer, I just feel that there is no real concern about fixing anything, I am sent home with him and I can either watch things get worse or research and demand. Sorry for the rant. I regret not going with a specialist in TN. The only one is in Nashville which is a 2.5 hour drive. I have no right to complain, but the thought of starting over again with another doctor is overwhelming.

The Yervoy/Opvido combo seems to be the best treatment. And my friend lived with a 'tubed' kidney for aobut 4 months until they had to take it out. But at least didn't have the infection. I have read where several others have used Acupunture for the eating/llosing weight, nausea. I was told that Kaiser has referral for Acupuncute. i was going to try it for fatigue/sleeping. So far they have told me i could use it for nausea or pain. Perhaps it would help your husband. I am going to use acupunture on my own. Truthfully I am been too tired to follow up on it. But for sure the thryroid. After 2nd infusion mine has been wiped out. So sorry he is so sick. Sharon

Hi Sharon,
His thyroid has since been checked and shows no issues. His urologist says that as long as his other kidney is functioning, there is no need to do anything with the other, for now. He had to go back into the hospital because he was so weak, although he has lost much weight, at 6'2 and me being 5'2", I could not lift him. He has been there for a few days and he feels better. He will be going into a nursing home for 2 weeks to help him build his strength and hoping start walking with just a cane. Unfortunately, he became so fatigued and depressed that he did not try to walk or do anything. He would lay all day in the recliner only getting up to use the toilet and to go to bed. I will say a prayer that you will find the mental strength to keep you moving forward until you regain your physical strength. God Bless, Sandra
