I had 39 axillary lymph nodes removed 6 weeks ago. I kept the jp drain tube until this week although i still had 60 to 70 draining daily. Dr. removed drain anyway. It has been 2 days and the armpit area is tight and swelling and my breastfeeding on the affected side is swollen and slightly red. I was not given much instruction at the office at time of removal other than of a swollen ball area comes up maybe call or maybe it will go away on its own. The whole area is tight not just a ball area. Does this sound like anyone else experience and normal or should I be calling the dr.?

Call and ask for appointment to get it drained, on my first CLND removal I took it out to early and the surgeon actually put it back in the next week after having to drain it twice by needle. Best wishes!!!Ed

I agree with Ed.  I had swelling after my drain tube came out too.  Having the doctor look at it is the best advice.  The issue I had was the swelling was not enough for them to drain with a needle.  I started seeing a certified lymphedema therapist.  My surgeon referred me to her and it was a God send.  I still have a little swelling under my arm pit from time to time and it has been two years since my CLND.  However, it is way more manageable given all that I have learned from my therapist.
