My husband has a world-class neurologist and awesome melanoma specialist at Jefferson in Philly. Our oncologist reviewed my hubby's recent MRI results with us and showed us a "white" area that seems to be at C4 and has a hook to C5. She said the neurologist had no idea what it is but didn't think it looked like cancer. I'm baffled that someone of his caliber can't guess at things it could be. They are doing a PET Thursday to see if it lights up. It just keeps bothering me … Was wondering if anyone else has run across something like this. Thanks. Kimberly

Hi there,
Although I haven't ever run across anything like that, I can share your frustration with this situation. It seems that everytime I have a test done, something shows up and the results of the test are never clear as to what it is. My dr. doesn't hazard any guesses either. It just requires more tests and poking and prodding. I hope that you find the answers and that it is something inconsequential. Good luck!

There is a 'mass' on the inner wall of my abdomen in my first CT. This caused me to be diagnosed as stage 4 but then, when it did not light up in the PET they decided it wan't melanoma and I was restaged as stage 3C.
It's still there. Four CT scans so far and no change. I'm certainly not going to insist on a biopsy!
Has your husband had a MRI of this area before? Is the lesion new? Or have they upgraded to MRI scanner?

Good question. The thoracic MRI is new for him. Only lumbar ones before. So not sure if it's new or has always been there. And not sure if it's an upgraded MRI scanner … You ask great questions. No doubt that serves you well as you get care. Glad to hear that your "mass" is behaving. Best of luck to you in your journey.
