If it is new and/or changing and does not look like another mole on your body, then make an appointment with your doctor or dermatologist and have it looked at. We can't say based on an image if it is melanoma or a concerning lesion. Based on what you know about your body, if it worries you, then get it looked at by a professional and get it biopsied. Only a biopsy can determine if something is cancerous or not.

            Hey,

You can always get an idea based on appearance. There's of course, always exceptions to the rules with moles looking harness and being Melanoma and Moles looking irregular, abnormal and being benigh.

What I'm asking is of it looks like something concerning.

I don't know your body and your skin like you do. Only you can really make the decision if it is concerning. If it is new, changing, or looks nothing like other moles you have, then get it looked at. You could wait a month and compare to this image and see if it changes. If you feel concerned enough to ask about it, you might want to see a derm anyway and get some piece of mind about it. But, no one can say if it is concerning because we don't have anything to compare it to since we're not in your body. There are so many varying ways that a melanoma can look, from color to shape to absense of color to all sorts of other things. My first thought is if you're coming to a forum such as this then something in your mind is telling you it is concerned, so go get it checked out and more than likely it could be nothing and if it is something then you've probably caught it early and you can cross that bridge when you get to it. That's all the advice I can give, I hope the best for you.

Appearance is actually not the most important tool, change is.  I looked at your pic and couldn't say anything about it.  Does it look different from all your other moles?  Is it changing?  These are more important than the actual charactistics of the lesion.  If you have others that look similar in color, then definitely not concerned.  If it has changed recently, then definitely see a derm.  If it has been stable for years, again not concerning.  A picture doesn't tell the story.

I have no idea if it's changed I only noticed it when I took a picture up close so can't say if it's changed or not. Do you think I should monitor it or just see a Derm?

I did see a Derm 5 months ago who checked my whole back but I'm not sure if the mole was there or not. I've got a smaller mole on my arm which is similar in colour but slightly different shape.
