Hello Everyone,I have another question that hopefully someone can provide some clarity on. I received biopsy results this past Monday (Melanoma in situ). That was 3 weeks after the actual biopsy procedure. My follow up for a wide excision for 0.5cm margins isn’t until next Thursday.
Does this seem slow to anyone? They did a shave biopsy and it looks like they already went down to the fatty tissue, so maybe they think they already got everything and this is just additional?
I’ll call the doctor tomorrow, but maybe someone can calm my nerves a bit before then.
Thanks!

Hi mr505, are you with Kaiser by any chance? I have them & their stuff “seem” slow, or im just being antsy! I know your probably thinkin what “Id” be thinkin that, our Melanoma could “spread” with all this time inbetween! But dont worry, theyll go “Wide” and deep when they fish inside you for Mel Monsters, clean margins is the game…-

Not with Kaiser. Went through a dermatologist office partnered with a hospital here in Chicago. It seems like since it’s in situ, it’s not as aggressive and like you said, they’ll just clean up with the margin. My doctor even said I didn’t necessarily have to rush, just that it’d be better to get it before end of summer. So, that seems reassuring… I think.

Hi MR505.While the time to get your results seem slow, the time for the WLE seems fine, even from your original biopsy. Especially because it was in site and regular superficial spreading (not modular). I (1A) purposely waited 5 weeks because of other things I had going on, and it didn’t make any difference at all. Great that you caught it nice and early!

Hi MR505,I just had my WLE a couple of weeks ago through Kaiser. I received my biopsy results within 1 week and was scheduled to see a surgeon 10 days later, with the surgery scheduled 3 days after my initial appointment with surgeon. I did have to call and email my dermatologist to help move everything along quickly. Did the same once referral for surgeon was submitted. I cleared my schedule and let the appointment center know I was available anytime before the end of month. With that flexibility, I was able to go from my initial biopsy to surgery in 3 1/2 weeks.
