      Hello,

I am new to this form. I am stage 4. My doctor is trying to get me into Merck PD1 trial at UCSF.

Is anyone in the Merck PD1 trial at UCSF and can tell me how you have responded to this drug and what are the side effects (if any) you have experienced. Who is the doctor running this trial and is he nice???

If you at participating in the Merck PD1 trial at a different location, I would still appreciate knowing if anyone is responding to  this Merck PD1 trial and side effects. How often are the infusions??? Do you have to do a biopsy to qualify for this trial??

Thanks you for taking the time to respond to my post.

I'm the Merck PD 1 trial at The Angeles Clinic.  There are several different Phase I doses.  I'm on 10 every two weeks.  Others are 10 every 3 weeks and yet others are at a lower dose and I'm not sure if it is 2 or 3 weeks.  Merck is opening Phase II trials soon if they have not already opened which will have several arms with crossover allowed.  Yes, I had a required biopsy…minor.

Actual infusion time is 1/2 hr with no side effects.  It is well tolerated.

I've had some trouble with fatigue which I understand is the most frequent side effect.  At one point I had a skin rash with no itching for maybe a month.  These are minor side effects compared with other therapies.

About 2 weeks ago Merck published the first very preliminary results of their Phase I trial.  About 50% of the patients had objective responses (defined as 30% or more decrease).  The paper is on the Merck website and The Angeles Clinic website.

When did you start the trial? Did any of you tumors shrink?? Are you cancer free now???

                      Hi Carol,

My husband Brent is on the trial at Moffitt.  He is on 10 mg every three weeks.  He will have his second infusion this coming Tuesday.  We are not sure it was totally from the treatment but his tumor area (back ribs area) became so painful after the infusion that he spent more than a week in the hospital.  He is on pain meds and feels a bit better.  We are praying that this works for him and all of those who are in the trial.  He is Braf negative and really negative for 8 or nine of the mutations they could test for.  There has been some discussion aboout the tumors swelling before they shrink.  I sure hope that is Brents case.
