Hi,
I'm a 52yr old male, and In April I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, a 5.1cm tumor on one of my adrenal glands and a small 13mm tumor on the right lower lobe of my lung. They were unable to find the primary. Last week I received my 2nd cycle of yervoy/opdivo and have few lasting side affects… mostly fatigue but occasionally a fever or sore muscles/joints. Although I am letting my oncologist suggest the course of action, I know there are things I can do to try and help myself, such as taking the correct vitamins and supplements to help my body fight the tumors. Currently I'm taking a men's multi, 1000iu D3, Tumeric, and Resveratrol. Are there any suggestions out there that could/would make this regimine more theraputic?
Thanks!

Hi Smyers 5015, while there is nothing that I know of that has been studied scientifically, there is some new research being done at M.D. Anderson and other location about microbes that are in our digestion system. I know it is a kind of shitty topic (melanoma humor) but there seems to be some interesting links. If you go back to older posts you will find that the topic of supplements comes up from time to time. I have been on Immunotherapy drugs for 4o months and I have not changed diet or used supplements but other on the forum have made huge life style changes. It is a topic that doesn't have scientific data but lots of businesses pushing marketing that this is the way to beat Cancer. Best Wishes!!!Ed

I take the same supplements and I also have been taking Maitake D since my diagnosis in 2011. Here is an abstract of a study done in 2003 regarding Maitake. My oncologist said the science is not clear, but that the supplements taken in moderation won't harm me.

I am currently on Mek/Taf for my melanoma. As soon as I found out that it was metastatic I canged my diet and started taking vit C, D3, K, Magnesium and Zinc. I cut out refined sugar and processed foods. I try to make a protein smoothie every day (whey protein, yogurt, peanut butter, berries, macha, green superfoods poweder, chia and flax, ice) and a fresh juice from the juicer. I feel that these changes not only have helped slow the cancer down but helps my body heal itself better. Once I started the Mek/Taf (5 days ago) I have had a great response. Aside from one day of horrible headaches and fever I feel that my vitimins and diet have greatly assisted me in my healing and my ability to respond well to the treatment.
I would say, keep doing what you are doing. Research what would be good for you. If you want to look into the sups I am taking and see what you think would work best for you. And as always, keep your Dr in the loop.
I hope all goes well for you.
