I have several suspicious growths on my skin and after waiting a week for my dermatologist referral they told me I’d have to wait 9 months.. Should I just go to the hospital?? I don’t think I could wait another week the anxiety is really getting through me..

I would ask for a referral to a dermatologist with better availability.

I had the same problem this week. First call the clinic to confirm they have your referral. Ask to be put on the cancellation list. Explain you have a concern you want looked at urgently and will take any cancellation that comes up. Follow up each day and be prepared to clear you schedule. If that still doesn't work ask that your doctor put "urgent" on the next referral request.

That is absolutely unacceptable. Find another derm if they will not get you in within three weeks. I an a stage IV melanoma patient and have an agreement with my derm that if I see something suspicious, he will get me in within a few days.

Echo of the other posts… find another derm who can fit you into their schedule sooner.  9 months is unacceptable.  Your primary care should be able to suggest some other derms.

              Good wishes to you,

              Jennifer

I was faced with a long wait too for a dermatologist.  I called a plastic surgeon office and was able to get in quickly. I'm glad I did- the lesion was melanoma.
