Hello everyone. I'm back!! ๐ I was hoping to not have to deal with Melanoma again but I am highly suspicious that I have a distant recurrence on my forearm in the form of a subcutaneous tumor. It started a couple months ago right after a dermatologist appointment and getting fully checked. It started as a small BB sized bump under the skin and in the last 2 months has grown to the size of a marble. I want to believe that it's nothing but a lipoma or something but I've also been feeling fatigued and vomiting anytime I have any type of alcohol. I haven't been able to get a scan since right after my surgery over a year ago since I don't have any medical insurance so I haven't been able to keep up on things like I should so my question is can anyone tell me if they think this is a distant tumor or what. My initial tumor was on my chest on the right side. I do plan on trying to figure out a way to have this biopsied hopefully this week but any information you could offer would help ease my mind.
Thanks bunches!! ๐

Yes, you should definitely get it biopsied as soon as possible. It may turn out to be nothing serious, which would be a big relief for you! And if it is melanoma, you may well qualify for one or more clinical trials that will cost you nothing. Stories like yours make me SO ashamed of our rotten, corrupt healthcare system! Why do we, the richest country in the world, tolerate such b**sh**?! Please do keep us posted about your progress.

Hello Denise,
I am so sorry you have been unable to secure health insurance, cancer is difficult enough without the added burden of no health insurance. Perhaps the silver lining will be that you will qualify for an amazing clinical trial and you will be accepted regardless of your insurance or lack of, be cured, and I so wish this for you.
I've read your bio about how you were introduced to melanoma and the treatments you have done. I am hopeful for you that this is just another melanoma scare and it turns out to be another benign situation. However, what you describe is exactly what I have experienced with all of my subcutaneous tumors. I know you are already on "high alert" with your initial scare… I would waste no time and have it checked out and always… hope for the best. Please keep us updated with your findings and I wish good, positive answers for you as none of us here, are ever happy to greet another melanoma patient into the fold…..we're trying to keep our numbers down…if you know what I mean!!
Wishing you good things,
Swanee

Hi Swanee,
I read your profile and posts prior to you posting, and I was hoping you would reply. I don’t know what else it could be but I’m hopeful. I just spoke to my best friend and she has offered to pay for the biopsy!! She’s the best!! It will either ease my mind or stress me out further with what to do next. Hopefully by next week I will have some answers to deal with my future. I keep thinking, my god, I’m gonna die from a sunburn! I will keep you posted. Thank you so much for your support!! ๐ -

A forearm met would not be the most likely place for a recurrence when your primary was on your chest. Typically, you wouldn't find it going "downhill" from the lymph node basin. Not to say that it couldn't as melanoma is capricious. But I wouldn't give up hope that it is something else at this point. Realistically, with a deep primary, I'd be more worried about organ involvement than distant sub-q mets. But like you know, nothing can be diagnosed for certain without a biopsy. Let us know what the final diagnosis is!
Best wishes,
Janner

Hi Janner,
I remember last year your help and posts! Your so educated with this! I know that organs should be of concern but unfortunately I can’t get a pet scan, they’re very expensive! I’m trying to figure something out this week, I may have to move to california to get help, Nevada doesn’t have anything. Its crazy how this can consume your life and mind! I know I need to stay positive but I can’t imagine what else it can be given my history. I can only try to remember what I went through last year and try to stay positive until the facts are known, otherwise I will go crazy with the what ifs!! Thanks so much for your insight, I’ll keep you posted!
Btw, how are you? -

Hi Denise,
I also did not have insurance when visiting a dermatologist for the first time to have several moles biopsied that I was concerned about. I discussed it with the derm, and he charged me around $100.00 per mole for the biopsy. It was another $150.00 to have each one sent to the lab and get the results. When the results came back they even gave me a discount on the WLE surgery.
Talk to a derm and tell him your situation, they may even give you a discount if you have cash or maybe you can make payment arrangements.
Good luck, and let us know the results!
