If the punch biopsy procedure removed the entire mole (and the pre-cancerous or melanoma cells with it) and margins were clear, why the need to re-excise?

If your biopsy is NOT melanoma and margins are clear of whatever else the lesion is…there is no need for additional excision.  If your biopsy is melanoma, then there are standards of depth of clear margins, that must surround the melanoma lesion, on all sides, that need to be met.  I saw your prior post and responses.  I know you are very worried.  But, though this is worrisome and frightening….I would advise that you try not to "borrow trouble."  Though it is difficult, I recommend that you wait and see what you are actually dealing with.  If it is melanoma….there is a wealth of well informed and caring peeps here who are ready to help you.  Additionally, the world of melanoma treatment has radically changed (for the better!!!) in the past 6 or 7 years.  So…hang in there.  You can do this.  I am hopeful that you are not dealing with melanoma at all.  But, if you are….you can handle that as well and we will be there to help you.  Yours, celeste
