I had my WLE on left calf and SNLB at groin (which was positive for cancer cells, unfortunately). I'm two weeks out and I'm noticing 1) the SNLB incision site has a huge hard knot underneath it, like a quail egg, 2) my thigh from the SNLB site down to my knee is still very tender, 3) the lower leg was fine for the first 10-12 day but now the feeling is coming back and it's pretty sore, 4) most distressing is the swelling of my whole leg, knee, ankle, everything! It goes down a little at night, but swells up a lot during the day. I'm trying to stay off it as much as possible, but I've done a lot of walking about (have to).
I'm just looking for other patient input. I guess I'm worried about Lymphedema issues. Does this sound normal? I go in tomorrow to get stitches out and to talk about LDH results and hopefully to schedule PET scan.

I had swelling after my SLNB right at the surgical site. It was a sermon that eventually became the size of a nerf football. While I was at the Atlanta airport I bent over to pick up my plane ticket after dropping it and that seroma popped. Looked like I had an issue with continence. It drained and swelled again. I had it cleaned out at MSKCC during my initial visit with the surgical oncologist (in one of the exam rooms in his office). That alleviated it finally. Whatever it is, make sure you circle back with the surgeon. Good luck!

Seroma is most likely what the "quail egg" is – and lymphedema, while uncommon with the SLNB, is definitely possible. At this point, since it's very early in the healing process, I'd be talking to the doc about things to help. Want to nip this before it becomes something chronic. Just talk to your doc about your concerns.
