I didn't have any side affects until after the third infusion and they were minor. I had already quit working long before that due to the zommeta then zelboraf then the disease. I've heard if a person can continue working it is better.

Hi Addy's Mom,
Yes, the side effects do get worse after each infusion. Mine didn't really start until after my third. I was mostly able to work, but I have a sit down job where I can control (mostly) my own schedule (I have a great boss!).

Yes, side effects can be cumulative (i.e., worse and/or changing) and, yes, you can keep working. The key is to stay in touch with your onc (hopefully a melanoma specialist), particularly for GI issues and headaches. You can search prior posts for losts of info on ipi side effects.

I made it through the four infusions with the only side effect being the itchy rash, for which I was given prednisone.
About a week after my last infusion, I became quite ill, with GI issues. Gas, diarrhea, abdominal cramping. I was up out of bed, in pain, literally every night for about 3 weeks, before it started to subside. I couldn't eat much of anything. I was hungry, but everything I ate gave me abdominal pain and gas.
Eventually it started to subside, and after about 5 weeks I began to return to normal. I lost about 15 pounds. In my case, not a bad thing, it put me within about 5-10 pounds of my optimum weight. But it was not a good way to get there.
Things are back to normal with me now. Good luck to your husband.

AFter reading your notes I wll have to question my oncologist if this drug is something I should
take now. I am stage 3 currently receiving radiation on neck area under ear. What stage are you.
The Yervoy web sight states 'cancer that is metastatic or unrsectable). She said I will have a scan
after my radiation completes. Previous one have been negative. I will ask her if we should wait until it.
But if my doctor says I should have the drug and I declined I would lose that doctor.
