GeminiBird,
So, I'm the first in my family to get melanoma (as least as far as I know). I did play sports as a kid and was outdoors a lot but I did not spent a lot of time laying out or working on a tan. It's was a big shock. A few years ago I even asked a dermatologist about my spot that ended up being melanoma and he was not concerned. Mine was not where the sun shines on my stomach. I think I wore a two piece half a dozen times in my life.
Fortunately they found your melanoma insitu so you have already taken huge steps to watch closely for changes. I'm in a similar boat. They found mine somewhat early (but they could have caught it earlier) and everything that has been removed since then (all but one) were mildly atypical. My sister does not have moles. My mom does not either.
Also, I have been told that this is an excellent time to have this disease if you have to have it because technology is making major strides to better understand the disease and determine many of the 'why's' in cases like ours.

In a very simliar boat. I had two light brown dots come out of my scar as it healed. One disappeared and the other kept on growing so the derm did a biopsy of the freckle looking brown spot growing out of my stich. It came back mildly atypical. I keep an eye on it now. It seems like my scar has a ton more freckles around it then before – and mine was disagnosed when I was preggers and had the surgery right before I was due. Baby is a year old now (wow it went fast). Completey agree with the anxiety you are going through. Totally normal. Hang in there and feel free to vent away! Also, trust your gut, if you do not trust your doctor, find another one you can trust.

Yes, been taking Vit D supplement. During pregnancy I measured 20 (recommended 30-100 range) and was able to get it up to 40 by the end of the pregnancy. After my first child I got kidney stones, a previous primary care doctor told me not to take Vitamin D due to increase chance of more kidney stones. During the pregnancy they discovered low thyroid function which is unexplained. They want to do a scan of my pituitary to rule out secondary hypothyroidism in a few months.
So funny you mentioned the fake tan, I had been using fake tanning lotion on my arms for years. (my melanoma was on my trunk where the sun does not shine under my left breast. So strange.

Thank you. Unfortunately I have a few people I know that have had 'thin' melanomas diagnosed during pregnancy and they are not with us so it has really rattled my cage a bit. The baby has changed everything. She helps me see life in a new way – through her eyes. (and with more suncreen) π She is a toe-head like I was.
