I am down to 10mg/day from the 100 I started out at. I have had what i would call loose stool which improves as the days pass. I am planning on going down to 5mg/day following my appointment with the oncologist Wednesday. This has been ongoing ever since I began the reductions. Doctor's advice is the same and as long as things are getting better and not worse I am staying the course.
Good Luck

Kevin,
I also tried the Yervoy route with no luck. Then IL2 – again no luck. I'm still hoping that maybe one or both of these treatments kick in late and do some good but I can't wait on that. Going to try another trial in a week and I understand there are others but I need get off this steroid first. The way I see it why not keep getting up to bat and give it a go – what else is there to do anyway?
Keep at it and good luck,

Interferon can be tough and results are somewhat unclear from my perspective. Initially I couldn't understand why the doctors were proposing this treatment as I had the melanoma removed and scans indicated NED. I was stage 2 at the time and did opt in knowing I had great support at home and could stop the treatments at anytime. I lasted 8 months and it did knock me down quite a bit. The biggest side effect by far was the fatigue. As with all treatment options some work and some do not. The Interferon did not work in my case as I am now stage 4 liver METS. But would I do it again? Probably – but as stated in earlier replies it is a personal choice albeit not easy.

Joan,
I completed 4 rounds of IPPY with very little side effects. Some minor fatigue and a minor rash on my arms. Otherwise all went well. Unfortunately the scans showed progression so I moved on to IL2. Now thats the one with the side effects…
