Please do yourself a favor and get plenty of rest. Don’t go back to work, exert yourself, or do anything strenuous until the drains are out and you are healing.
        Eat well including animal protein,
and follow your drs. Instructions carefully.
I went back to work too soon which resulted in a post-op. infection, longer recovery and additional scarring.
Give yourself plenty of time to heal.
The numbness in your leg will improve over time. Once you’re
healed you can wear a compression stocking to relieve the swelling & talk to a lymphaedema specialist about massage, etc.
Vitamin E oil works well on the scars.
Try to be patient and allow the “tincture of time” to work its magic.
Now I can wear a bikini again!

I’m 6 years out from CLND in groin area.
I ride my horse competitively and practice
          4 times a week (about 1 1/2
          hours at a time).
I bike twice a week for a few hours, and hike every couple weeks all while wearing a graduated compression stocking.
The lymphedema has improved over time – no more ankle swelling, but still increases after workout then decreases over night &
try to keep my feet raised.
I bought a lymphedema pump soon after my surgery but find I don’t need it much now.
          Staying slim and fit really
          helps.

Keep your leg elevated as much as possible – perhaps on another chair.

Ideal is to have your leg higher than the level of your heart.

Wear a compression stocking. Graduated compression from your foot

on up the leg but take it off at night and elevate the leg in bed.

                Hope this helps!

It took me a few months to really feel like ME again!  I did go back to work a week after surgery which I believe was a

mistake as it slowed my recovery and caused a delay in the removal of my drains.  I believe it's important to do as

much "power sleeping" as possible so you can heal,  eat  lots  of protein including red meat (even if it's not part of

your normal diet), drink lots of water, and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

I would highly recommend Dr. KIM at San Francisco
                        Oncology at the California
                        Pacific Medical Center.
He is a renown melanoma specialist – he is wonderful.
You are not that far worth
                        the couple hours!

It’s been 6 years since my CLND groin area – so forgive me if I don’the remember all details.
I do remember that the femoral artery situation as
you describe was a real possibility for me at the time.
My surgeon didn’t know for sure if my tumor (node)had
adhered itself to the artery so he had a vascular surgeon
                          standing by incase I needed
                          a graft.
In my case the tumor peeled
right off so no graft required, but the possibility of the longer stay had been real and not
                          that unusual.
I had numbness in my thigh
for at least a year or so
and now have almost complete feeling again.
