This sounds very interesting, thanks for sharing. Do you know which type of lesions are eligible for this treatment? Cutanous versus lesions in organs, etc? A link to more information about this therapy study would be appreciated.

              Hi there,

I was offered a 12 month Interferon treatment programme after I was diagnosed with 3A melanoma with primary on my upper arm. I was warned about side effects but told this was the only medical option at the point (adjuvant therapy).

I decided to go for it. I hear many report about unbearable side effects. Fatigue and flu-like symptoms. I personally would characterize my side effects as minor. I usually felt a bit tired the day after taking them. Toward the end of the 12 month period, I started feeling anxious and claustrophobic, but I did manage to live with these without too many problems. Physically, I was quite fit, managing to run long 10K km runs two-three times every week, like I used to before starting treatment.

              Good luck with your choice.

Thank you Tom for this, very useful in order to understand how clinical trials work in the US.

Thanks Gary for replying to my post. It encourages me to read about other patients in similar situations. I am very happy to read about your partially responding to the meds. Truly hoping the meds will control the disease for years to come. I particularly found you "a little denial is not a bad thing"-remark very useful as I think stage IV life quality is often deteriorated by endless worrying and "what if" thinking.

                        All the best to you,

                          Thanks for your reply, Tom.

I traveled to Africa last summer, on Nivo, and was approved malaria pills as well. I'll chase my doc on whether the Nivo/yellow fever combo is advisable. May I ask why you would avoid East and Central Africa?

I hope you are responding well to Nivo, I've been on for 18 months and have continued response.

                          Best,

                                Hi Terrie,

thanks for sharing the good news. I am happy to hear your lesions are shrinking! I have my new 2 month check-up tomorrow and hoping for the best. And as far as vitiligo is concerned… Bring it on!
