So sorry you are going through this dfeng. This post brought back so many emotions as I sit and read and it is as if my husband who lost his battle in March could have wrote this. Keep hofeful the next treatment may not indeed be your last…as it seems you know already there is hope. When we decided to call hospice, we knew it was time…. there was no question about it…..no choice. He knew his body and knew every day he didnt eat and tried to limit pain meds to not become dependent on them was not the answer for him. He was at the point, and it just came one day, that he wanted to be comfortable and not have people force him to eat everyday when he knew what kind of discomfort it caused him. I pray for you as you go through these challenges and forge on in your battle. Please take comfort in knowing every day is a new day and you are so strong to have gone through what you have. good luck!!

And yes…keep plugging along. When things for my husband looked very grim after trial failure time and time again, they kept telling us to just "plug along" one day at a time.!!

Hi..its been 4 years since I did for my husband who is not deceased, but it was easy to do online. took a little time to go through each screen but is straight forward. If you look on the SS website you can find illness/diseases that are an automatic approval. Metastatic Melanoma is an automatic approval and we had a response within a few days. We too also received back pay from official diagnosis of stage IV.

also wanted to add that it was very easy to check online the status of the application and what stage it was inexactly. We had approval within few days like I said.

I dont come on this board much anymore as my husband passed away little over 2  years ago from melanoma. anyway I wanted to share my SSDI experience as I did it myself.

It was pretty easy to do online but did take a couple hours and had to contact a few doctors to get some scan results I had been missing. It was easy though as long as you have all the informatin. At that time Stage IV was an automatic approval and from the list I see it still is. I was very thorough in the application and it was approved in 7 days I think and husband received back pay from when he was unable to work which if I remember correctly was a month.

He was able to work some hours and still receive SSDI as you allowed to work up to a max dollar amount…I cant remember what it is but all I had to do was report it on a quick form once a month to SS office by email.

I was also tole to hire attorney but it would have been a waste of time and wasnt worth the money. I would have had to provide them the same informtion I had to get on my own and already had.

                        dont be afraid to do.

My husband (deceased since Mar 2016) was a patient of Dr. Kirkwood for his Melanoma for many years. Yes….Dr. Kirkwood really pushed Interpheron…if as a combo in trials there. Husband was miserable for  year on the Interpheron in 2008 when he was state 2B.

When he became stage 4 in 2013 he did Interpheron and Ipi combo. Same misery with Interpheron (weekly injection) then so refused to participate in trial and went with Ipi alone.

yes…keep yuor head upand keep asking God to help you in the right direction and the doctors. Watched my husband go through these same decisions for 3 years back and forth and we always kept our two young teen girls in the loop….doing so made it much less shocking for them when we had to eventually talk to them about what was to come in the end for my husband.  Hopefully your treatment an/or surgery options will be successsful.
