Does the fact that one lit up and they removed it mean that that lymph node probably has melanoma in it?

Thank you everyone for your opinions and advice. I really appreciate it all.

So weird your name is Val, That's my name too.

This had been a hard decision for us as his original surgeon did not want to do it but his dermatologist does want it Done and  he has now set us up with a melanoma specialist team at a very good hospital so we both feel this will give us some piece of mind that 'wait and see' won't. I wish we had got it done at the same time as the WLE but when he went in for that, they believed the depth was only .34 which wasn't the case after they removed it all.

My fiancé is only 27 years old, before all this we were planing  our wedding and now we are planning surgeries and follow up tests and it's just all been very hard to deal with. I just hope we can get some piece of mind from this test – or if for some horrible reason it comes back positive at least we can start fighting back.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on it… Hopefully it goes away and doesnt grow.  Weshould have an appountment coming up very soon so I am going to bring it up at that meeting.  Was the lump you found on your jaw on the same side as your mole? Where was your mole located?

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

                          Hi Kim,

thank you for taking the time to answer. I am so sorry aput your current diagnosis.  Unfortunately, we are in the same position you were when you started your journey and the WLE has already been done and now since the melanoma was deeper than they thought (originally they thought it was .34 after the WLE it was actually 1.2mm) we are stuck with making the choice of if we should now do the SNB. Do you have any advice? Thank you.

Thank you, we are praying they come back negative. I hope that the odds are in our favour.

It was an amelanotic melanoma.  It started off as a very small red spot on his jaw when we came back from a vacation five years ago.  It stayed pretty small for a while and he had it tested multiple times with his doctor and was told it was a fungal infection and was given steroid creams for it.  Then recently it started growing very fast and was getting more red and itchy by the day so he was referred to a dermatologist who thought it was a patch of eczema but then decided to test it just in case and it turned out to be melanoma. Really it just looked like a patch of red skin.  We never in a million years thought it would be melanoma, his doctor and the dermatologist were shocked as were we.
